Young entrepreneur champions graduate recruitment through new website
80% of current under-graduates, according to a recent National Union of Students poll, are pessimistic about their job prospects after they have graduated and with companies backing out of the Milk Round and taking on fewer graduate recruits, they would be excused for thinking that the outlook is bleak.
Until this week, that is when we have seen the launch of a new website, http://www.enternships.com which links promising graduates to entrepreneurial and small companies in the UK and beyond. Prospective employers upload their internships and job opportunities and candidates upload their CVs. The recruitment process is a direct one between the employer and the prospective employee taking away the need for a middle man.
The whole idea is the dream-child of Rajeeb Dey who, at just 23, is challenging the stereotypical view of graduate recruitment. His Oxford education and network of contacts led him to the conclusion that students don't necessarily want to work with larger firms but instead want roles in smaller and more dynamic organisations. Similarly, he realised, those entrepreneurial companies are often challenged when it comes to finding the right talent to do the job.
"In the current climate," argues Dey, "Entrepreneurial businesses offer so much more in the way of exciting opportunities so it’s about time we shifted our attention to the ‘long tail’ of the recruitment industry and looked at the millions of small but exciting firms out there. It's the perfect platform for building your entrepreneurial skills base."
