Car sales in India have increased by 61 %
Passenger car sales soared by 60.83 per cent in November, continuing the momentum gained in the festive season and benefitting from a low base in the same month last year.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger car sales jumped by 60.83 per cent to 1.34 lakh units in November, the eighth consecutive month of growth, compared to 83,121 units in the same month last year.
“It is due to the low base. Last year, November sales were very low and this year we have expected a good jump and this has happened,” SIAM Senior Director Sugato Sen said on the high growth of auto sales in November.
Domestic passenger car sales had registered a healthy 34 per cent growth in October on festive demand.
Many passenger car makers are likely to introduce new models starting January next year which would boost the sector, Mr. Sen said.
Due to robust sales growth recorded by the companies in the past few months, SIAM was likely to revive its sales forecast for this fiscal soon, he said.
Motorcycle sales were up by 42.4 per cent at 6.14 lakh units in November compared to 4.31 lakh units in the same month a year ago.
Sales of commercial vehicles almost doubled to 40,874 units in the last month compared to 20,631 units in the corresponding period last year, SIAM said.
People on the ground in Delhi suggest that the Transport Department are planning to force all auto drivers to replace their autos with small cars! The case for this policy is non-existent, but some are saying that will merely increase the bureaucracy needed for drivers, contractors and financiers to pursue their living and increase the amount of interaction they have to go through with local authorities in order to do what they are already doing before!
