HSBC has launched a report ‘ The Business of Recovery’ which assesses the state of lending and all financial interaction between the banks and Small and Medium sized businesses. The research is based on data collected from over 2,100 owners and founders of businesses and as such is the largest and most comprehensive survey of the people who actually set up and run SMEs.
The research was conducted by Delta Economics through their COGS survey, which analyses the Challenges and Opportunities for Growth and Sustainability throughout the UK. The HSBC report stresses that there is money out there for SMEs for growth but also suggests that one key issue is that SMEs are not as keen to apply for it as before the recession.
Whether SMEs will use what HSBC say is available may determine at a macro level, whether or not the UK keeps hold of those companies which have survived so far through the next few difficult months.
