Joe Sarling

Joe graduated in 2009 with MSc Development Economics (SOAS) after completing his BA Economics and Business (UCL) in 2008. After graduating he worked in the West Midlands (UK) at a social enterprise dealing with business (both orthodox and social enterprise) start ups. He was also a consultant at a community based research company whose clients included the local authority and the NHS.

Joseph now works as a freelance economist and seeks to debate cutting edge research from consultancies and think tanks at both a national and regional level. His interests include the role that the private sector can play in communities both in the UK and in developing countries, the effects of the drive towards localism, regional economic growth, promotion of self-employment and youth policy (self-employment, training etc). All of these topics feed well into analysing key macroeconomic issues from around the world.

He champions the cause of young people both within education and enterprise. He is the Policy Leader of the Young People’s Enterprise Partnership in the West Midlands and aims to keep young people high on the policy agenda.

His personal blog, Comment Today, discusses current affairs from a different perspective (http://commenttoday.wordpress.com) and a part of this can be found on the Think Enterprise website (www.thinkenterprise.org)

In addition, Joe is a keen blogger for WES and also conducts research for Delta Economics (see www.deltaeconomics.com)
